Morton is an oasis in southwestern Minnesota for both the golfer and the gambler. Dacotah Ridge Golf Club partners with Jackpot Junction Casino Hotel for quite the 1, 2 wallet punch. The $50 donation to Mr. Blackjack was expected. However, the $85 round of golf at Dacotah Ridge, was not.

It is, however, an aesthetically spectacular course and meticulously groomed-a needle in a haystack. You would not expect to see what you do when you get there. This little course on the prairie has breathtaking panoramic views from the clubhouse and the #1 and #10 tee boxes. It probably wouldn't hurt you to sneak 27 different clubs (and balls) into your golf bag, as you could use every one. There isn't a shot you'll see twice on the course. You need to hit right, left, high and low. You'll battle wind, bunkers, trees, shanks, slices, hooks, fescue, and a very hungry Wabasha Creek. Then you'll get to the 2nd tee. But don't let that discourage you. If you can honestly break 100 at your local course, you can break 100 here. The guest service at this course is good but falls short of exceptional. There is also considerable sticker shock in the snack prices and little pocket relief besides the complimentary range balls. There's no question that for what you pay here, there should be GPS on the carts or you should receive a complimentary yardage book with a full-price green fee. GPS would make a huge difference here. The yardage book definitely does. Dacotah Ridge is a convenient and short trip from the Twin Cities and/or Mankato. There is a collection of signature holes here. Hole #1 is a phenomenal opener. Captain hook often makes an appearance on beautiful #4. Five defines risk and reward. Nine is spectacular, fun and very hard. Everyone loves the par-3 over-the-water #11. Thirteen is too easy. Fourteen is too hard. And then there's #18 and its 210-yard difference between the black and red tees. Yes, we found plenty to love about this course.

This is an unbelievable course for where it is... Really too bad it's not closer to where I live... It's associated with a casino and hotel, whose walls make paper seem thick... I'd have slept better in my car... My wife absolutely loved the course from the red tees, and it was quite fun from the tips... The only thing I didn't like was the cost... But I'd pay to play it again... Really cool course!
