A monthly business news publication called Business North in northern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin was talking golf last month.  Writer Ron Brochu provided a lot of background on some of the courses in the area.

It was the heyday of golf course expansion in the 1990s:

“In the 1990s, all you had to do is open the doors and the course was full. It’s not that way anymore,” said Mark Carlson, pro at Nemadji Golf Course in Superior.

In the 1980s Nemadji Golf Course in Superior, Wisconsin added 18 holes.

In the 1990s Cumberland Golf Course, Superior National, Hidden Greens, Apostle Highland, Ruttger's Sugarbrooke, Wendigo Golf Club, Hayward National, Giant's Ridge, Teal Wing and Falls Country Club either opened or expanded.

In the 2000s, Black Bear Golf Club, Cloquet Country Club, the Quarry at Giant's Ridge, Big Fish Golf Club and Minnesota National all either opened or expanded.

Obviously there is a lot of golf around Lake Superior.
