Every bake in the August sun and wonder why there aren't solar panels on the top of your golf cart so that you can keep the cart charge or even better, plug in you iPhone? Now there are.

An Ames, Iowa company has partnered with Textron, the maker of the EZ-GO golf carts, to put solar panels on carts and claims it can save up to 20% in charging costs.

According to the Des Moines Register :

The companies said in a product announcement that they had developed a snap-top installation system that allows PowerFilm’s solar cells to be easily attached to the roofs of E-Z-GO cars.

PowerFilm has experimented with solar-powered golf cars for some time, and last year made 10 solar-powered cars available for use at the Principal Charity Classic golf tournament in West Des Moines.

At only 7 pounds it should be able to keep your golf cart charged for your entire round. Cost wasn't mentioned in the article, but hopefully it is inexpensive enough that we'll see more of these at our local golf courses.
